What are Governmental Committees?

Student Government primarily serves students through our various committees. These committees – comprised of both senators and at-large members – each organize their own events, initiatives, projects, and resources. You can find a brief description of each committee below.

    Events Committee

    The Events Committee organizes and executes key events, including Student Government’s annual Expo. These events are essential to our core mission of serving students, and members of this committee steer their direction.

    Finance Committee

    The Finance Committee works to effectively allocate the student activity fee that all students pay. This funding allows Student Government to support student organizations, as well as pay for various projects and initiatives that better the student experience.

    The Health and Wellness Committee works alongside key partners to create physical and mental health resources. This committee's resources enhance the overall student experience and draw attention to often-overlooked student needs.

    The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) Committee fosters honest discussion regarding the priorities of our diverse student body. Members meet with multicultural student organizations to better address their unique challenges.

    The Legislative Ambassadors serve as students’ chief representatives to our state and federal government. Members directly advance nonpartisan solutions to student needs as they meet with legislators and Regents.

    The Local Affairs Committee serves as students’ chief representatives to our local government and the Ames City Council. Members develop and implement nonpartisan initiatives to connect our student body with the Ames community.

    Public Relations Committee

    The Public Relations Committee maintains the organization’s strong public image. Members develop strategies to keep students informed about the organization, our recruitment efforts, and various campus-wide events and resources.

    The Rules Committee maintains Student Government’s rules and written documentation to ensure they meet the changing needs of the organization. This committee holds confirmation hearings for nominees and is the first line of defense against misconduct.

    Sustainability Committee

    The Sustainability Committee implements projects, hosts events, and promotes resources related to campus sustainability. Using the green initiatives fund, members work alongside student organizations to launch exciting campus-wide initiatives.
