    About the Committee

From working with the Ames City Council to getting students to vote, the Local Affairs Committee connects students to the community around them.

The Local Affairs Committee is comprised of senators and at-large members who work to ensure students feel like valued members of the Ames community. This committee represents student needs on city commissions, utilizes Student Government's non-voting student seat on the Ames City Council, works closely with CyRide, and hosts initatives to increase voter turnout in local elections. Student Government's Message the Mayor program, for instance, allows students to have direct input into their local government. Members of this committee gain valuable skills in advocacy, local government, and awareness campaigns as they connect students to the broader Ames community.
