Who we are
The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Committee is comprised of senators and at-large members who are committed to improving the student experience for underrepresented communities at Iowa State. We work to uplift student voices, foster equity, and advocate for those often left out of the conversation.
What we do
Our committee aims to advocate for students' needs under the IDEA umbrella. Any student who needs assistance or wants to create a project on the inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility needs on campus can count on us. We want to prevent any discomfort that students might face in this umbrella. Besides that, the committee co-chairs the International Student Experience in that we advocate for international students' needs and look for ways of improving their on-campus experience.
Our Projects
- International Career Fair Patch – Introduced the OPT/CPT-friendly employer signage, helping international students quickly identify companies that are open to hiring international students
- Dining Access Project - Alongside the dining team, we explore feasible solutions, keeping some on-campus market locations open and offering pre-packaged, heat-and-eat meal options
- International Nest: Prep Week Snack Break –Partnering with the Library and ISSO, we're planning a "Snack Break" initiative during prep week to support international students who often spend long hours studying there.
- Cyclone Cinema: International Movie Nights – Advocating for the screening of international films to highlight global cultures and enhance campus representation.
- Multicultural ClubFest – A proposed event to help students connect with cultural and identity-based organizations.
- IDEA Town Hall – Our annual event that brings together multicultural student organizations for open conversation around equity and student experiences.
